Security was detained after the IML analysis, which concluded that the cause of death was mechanical asphyxiation, in addition to multiple trauma.

The ViaMobilidade concessionaire acknowledged that its security officers’ body cameras were inactive during the attack that resulted in the death of a man on November 11, at the Carapicuíba train station, located in Grande. One of the security guards was arrested on charges of qualified intentional homicide, while three others are under investigation. The security guard’s arrest occurred after analysis by the Legal Medical Institute (IML), which concluded that the cause of death was mechanical asphyxiation, in addition to polytrauma. In response to the incident, ViaMobilidade fired six security guards, claiming they failed to activate body cameras, which is contrary to company guidelines.

Security camera images show the victim, identified as Jadson Pires, arriving at the station in a state of disorientation. He was attacked by a civil guard and dragged by security guards. The company stated that Jadson was agitated and did not follow instructions, being restrained after trying to invade the restricted area. Despite receiving first aid at the scene, his death was confirmed in an emergency care unit.

In response to what happened, ViaMobilidade announced the implementation of a recycling program for all its security agents, focusing on training to deal with people in vulnerable situations. “Additionally, the concessionaire increased the rigor of disciplinary measures and introduced the obligation to provide formal justification whenever there is a need to use force in carrying out activities.”

Investigations into the case continue under the responsibility of the Public Security Secretariat.
