The widow of John Lennon, Yoko Ono91, never got over the tragedy that marked his life more than four decades ago. On December 8, 1980, her husband was murdered at age 40, in front of the Dakota building, in New York, where the couple lived. Their son, the singer Sean Ono Lennon49, said her mother was unable to completely move on after the former Beatle’s death.

In an interview with BBC Radio 6 Music, Sean revealed that . “I grew up with my mother talking about my father every day,” he said.

“She famously cut her hair when I did because in Japan you used to cut your hair when your husband dies,” Sean explained. “So she talked about him every day, and I don’t think she ever got over that relationship.”

Sean, who recently led the re-release of “Mind Games”, 1973’s album, addressed the infamous “Lost Weekend”, a period of a year and a half in which the couple were separated and the British musician had a romance with May Pang, assistant of the couple.

“The truth is, even when they were apart, they always talked. So I don’t think they’re really done. All of his things were still in the apartment with my mother. It wasn’t a real separation,” he explained.

Sean said he believes Yoko’s influence on John’s life and work was undeniable. “I think it’s clear what his view of my mother was in his life. She was monumental, obviously, and the entire album (Mind Games) is about her,” he said.

“She was there in the studio…it kind of confirmed how deeply he was in love with my mom,” he continued. “I think every relationship is very difficult, and I don’t believe that human beings have really solved the love equation. So I think they did the best they could, more than any other couple I know.”
