CBF and Nike renewed the partnership that began in 1996 until 2038, the entity announced this Friday (6), highlighting that this is the biggest contract in the history of world football.
The values of the agreement were not disclosed, but, according to the website Ge.com, the company must pay US$100 million (R$608 million) by the end of the commitment in 2038.
One of the novelties of the contract is that, for the first time, the CBF will be able to receive royalties from the sale of the Brazilian team’s shirts.
The entity will also be allowed to open stores selling national team products around the world and will have the right to license products.
“The amounts are huge, a truckload of money. Millions worth, and could be even more,” a source told Reuters on condition of anonymity.
The president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, celebrated the agreement with the sports equipment manufacturer.
“It is one of the most long-lasting and successful football partnerships in the world,” he said.
“The extension of our partnership with the CBF proudly marks the beginning of our fourth decade of collaboration and reaffirms our long-standing commitment to Brazilian football,” added Doug Bowles, vice president and general director of Nike for Latin America.
The national team’s striker, Vini Jr., also commented on the agreement: “Nike has been an integral part of my journey as a football player. I’m excited to see the positive impact this partnership will have on young Brazilian players and the sport as a whole,” he said.
