Bashar Al Assad’s regime is facing its greatest threat in years. It is being targeted by a multi-pronged offensive and has already lost control of important regions of Syria.
The Syrian Army confirmed this Saturday that it withdrew its units from the provinces of Deraa and Al Sueida, in southern Syria, after allegedly terrorist elements attacked checkpoints, and imposed a security cordon in those areas.
The say they already controlled the city of Deraa. The group tore down the statue of Bashar al-Assad’s father in the region. It is the fourth city to fall to the rebels in a week.
The group guarantees that the Syrian Army has agreed to withdraw from the city. The Syrian regime does not deny it, it says it is repositioning troops after the rebel attacks.
At the same time, Turkey meets with Russia and Iran in Doha to try to find a political and peaceful solution to Syria.
