Daraa, cradle of the Arab Spring in Syria, falls under the control of Syrian rebels

Syrian rebels have taken control of the city of Daraa, in the south of Syria and capital of the province of the same name, of which they now control more than 90 percent, as reported by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The organization, based in London and informants in the country, has indicated that “local factions” control “more than 90 percent of the province in the midst of successive withdrawals of the regime’s forces”.

“The factions had asked regime forces and security services in Daraa province to defect immediately, in addition to having managed significant progress on the ground from the early hours of the morning,” they explained.

Thus, the rebels were able to gain “total” control of “numerous military sites, checkpoints and barracks”.

This same media has been reporting for hours about military withdrawals from their positions in the city and surrounding areas, For now, the Syrian Army has not commented on the matter.

In its statement, the Southern Command highlights that it has been created to protect the country’s southern borders with Jordan and restore stabilitywhile calling on the Syrian Government forces to defect.

This new alliance also ensures that has the collaboration of local militias from Sueidain the south of the country and another scene of conflict due to the uprising carried out by the militias of the Druze minority against the forces of the Syrian Government.
