During tribute, Janja defends female presence in the Judiciary

First lady was honored at an event that brought together ministers and parliamentarians in SP; group has 28 members in positions in the Lula government

First Lady Janja Lula da Silva stated this Friday (Dec 6, 2024) that the Judiciary needs the presence of more women. The statement was made during an event organized by the Prerrogativas group, in São Paulo, in his honor.

So that we no longer have cases of feminicide and sexual violence, women need to feel represented in the Judiciary, and you are very important”said Janja when taking the stage at Casa Natura Musical. She spoke about the importance of the female role in combating misogyny and machismo in Brazil.

The first lady’s speech was made during a tribute she received for her work in the Global Alliance against Hunger. She was accompanied by the president (PT), who arrived at the event at 9:15 pm, shortly after returning from Montevideo, where he participated in the 65th Mercosur Summit.

“This was a difficult year, but it was also a year in which we were harvesting many seeds, as my husband, President Lula, said”said Janja. Afterwards, she was applauded by around 700 guests present.

In the event’s reserved area, there were authorities such as ministers Anielle Franco (Racial Equality), Luciana Santos (Science and Technology), Cida Gonçalves (Women) and Fernando Haddad (Finance), who was with his wife, Ana Estela Haddad.

Lula remained on the upper floor of the main hall, talking to authorities. They watched the first lady’s speech next to ministers Márcio Macêdo (General Secretariat), Paulo Teixeira (Social and Agrarian Development) and photographer Ricardo Stuckert.
