Washington (Reuters) – The mother of Austin Tice, an American journalist captured more than 12 years ago in Syria, said this Friday (6) that her family has information that he is still alive.
“We have information from an important source that has been vetted by our entire government: Austin Tice is alive,” Debra Tice told reporters at the National Press Club this Friday, before heading to the White House for a meeting.
U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan met with Tice’s family in the afternoon, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters.

“Jake Sullivan had a meeting with the family of Austin Tice this afternoon, and … Jake Sullivan has been meeting regularly with the families of unjustly detained Americans,” he said. “We will continue to make sure Americans who have been unjustly detained return to their families.”
A former US Marine and freelance journalist, Tice was kidnapped in 2012 while reporting in Damascus on the uprising against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. At the time, he was 31 years old. There was no claim of responsibility for his kidnapping
