Through crimes such as international trafficking and money laundering, the criminal faction generates amounts greater than ministerial budgets
O PCC (Primeiro Comando da Capital) generates around US$ 1 billion (R$ 6 billion at current prices) per year with its criminal activities. This is what Lincoln Gakiya, prosecutor at the Public Ministry of São Paulo, says. According to him, the criminal faction is based on international trafficking and money laundering activities to build up the amount.
In an interview with CNN BrazilGakiya also states that the PCC has up to 40,000 members spread across all Brazilian states, in addition to being present in 26 countries. “This remains in the investigation phase, but we estimate that one billion dollars per year is handled. This does not take into account what individuals, partners or members of the leadership, who also carry out very important money laundering, are moving”he stated.
When adding the budgets foreseen for public security in the cities of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, we arrive at R$ 2.2 billion, a value lower than that generated by organized crime.
In relation to the government’s ministerial budget for 2025, the annual number indicated by the prosecutor exceeds 31 federal agencies (to open in another tab, click):
