Prosecutors at the specialized international court in The Hague on Friday charged former Kosovo president Hashim Thaci with obstruction and contempt of court.. Thaci is on trial in The Hague for war crimes. TASR informs according to the report of the AFP agency.
Thaciha was mourned by three cases of obstructing the work of officials in their duties, four cases of violation of judicial secrecy a four counts of contempt of court, it is stated in the statement of the prosecutor’s office. The Special Court for Kosovo (KSC) in The Hague said in a separate statement that Thaci allegedly tried to influence witness statements.
KSC was established in 2015 with the intention of investigate the crimes of members of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) during the war conflict in Kosovo. The tribunal is funded by the European Union and governed by Kosovo law, but is staffed by international judges and prosecutors. Based in The Hague to prevented witness intimidationas the former KLA commanders still dominate the political life of Kosovo.
The KSC is also hearing the case of Thacia former KLA commander who dominated Kosovo’s politics after declaring independence from Serbia in 2008. He was the president between 2016 and 2020, when from function resigned on charges of war crimes, which he allegedly committed during the 1998-1999 war in Kosovo. The ex-president denies all accusations.
