Ingredients for the solution:

  • 30 g fresh yeast
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1/4 cup of warm milk
  • 1 flat tablespoon of wheat flour.

Ingredients for the cake:

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 600 g of wheat cake flour
  • 50 g soft butter
  • 900 g of poppy seed mass.

Crumble the yeast into a small bowl, sprinkle it with sugar and pour warm ale not hot milk. Add flour and mix everything until the ingredients are combined. Set the solution aside for about 15 minutes.

After this time the leaven should rise significantly and it will foam. Place in a separate large bowl ready solution, egg, milk, butter and flour. Start kneading the ingredients with your hand or a food processor with a hook. Knead the dough until it forms smooth, uniform mass. Then cover the bowl with the dough with a cotton cloth and set aside in a warm place for at least 1.5 hours to rise.

Knead the risen yeast dough and divide into three equally portions. Roll out each piece in the shape of a circle. They should be the same diameter, no larger than the selected baking tray. Spend on the first one half of the poppy seed mass and spread it evenly. Place the second portion of dough on top and spread the remaining poppy seeds on it. Cover the last layer of dough with poppy seeds and gently cover the whole thing press down with your hands.

Place the prepared dough on a baking tray. In the center of the circle place the glass upside down and press it down. Now score the dough which is 16 pieceswithout removing the glass. Turn each cut twice so that the poppy seeds come out on top.

The whole thing again cover with a cotton cloth and leave for 15 minutes. After this time, spread the top part of the dough with melted butter or egg. Bake the poppy star in a preheated oven 170 degrees Celsius for 35 minutes. Set the cake aside to cool. For a better visual effect, you can sprinkle it with powdered sugar. The yeast star with poppy seeds is ready to serve.
