The (National Mining Agency) determined this Saturday (7.dec.2024) the interdiction and immediate suspension of all activities at the Turmalina mine, in the community of Castilhos, in Conceição do Pará (MG).

The agency’s “on-site” inspection detected a “imminent risk” landslide in the MSOL (Mineração Serras do Oeste Limitada) gold mine. The company is controlled by Canadian.

“Considering that this MME aims to guarantee safe and sustainable mining, I determine to this National Mining Agency that:

  1. immediately adopt strict inspection measures in relation to the structures and for the effective solution of the issue, all in order to guarantee the total safety of workers and residents in the region, including, if necessary and according to the Agency’s technical analysis, the ban of the Complex or part of it; and
  2. improve normative and practical actions so that similar cases, once reported to the Agency, are immediately and timely evaluated and administrative measures are effectively implemented”.
