The Revolution Square, in the center of Rio Branco, was transformed into a magical setting on Saturday night, the 7th, with the official opening of the 2024 Christmas decorations. Promoted by the City of Rio Branco, through the Garibaldi Brasil Foundation (FGB) and in partnership with the Commercial Association of Acre (Acisa), the event attracted families and visitors from the capital and neighboring municipalities to celebrate the traditional “Acender das Luzes”.
The highlight of the night was the grand 22-meter Christmas tree, lit up amid enchanting decorations that included large gift boxes and four artificial snow machines. Avenida Getúlio Vargas also gained special lighting, enhancing the Christmas atmosphere along the stretch between Rua Rui Barbosa and Avenida Brasil.
A cart with Santa Claus drove around the square, bringing smiles from children and adults, while the light and snow show completed the magical experience for the public present.
During the opening, the mayor of Rio Branco, Tião Bocalom, highlighted the relevance of the event for the city and the management’s commitment to improving the festivities each year.
“This is a long-awaited moment. Every year after we took office as City Hall, we have tried to improve Christmas celebrations, flowers and the Christmas spirit. It is a moment when joy takes over hearts. For me, it is a great pleasure to turn on the lights for the Christmas of Life, Hope and Dignity 2024. We are improving every year because our population deserves it”, said the mayor.
He also highlighted the importance of providing joy in a state where life is challenging for many. “At this time in December, the Christmas spirit takes over all of us, making everything lighter and closer to God. It is a privilege to turn on the lights and bring this shine to Rio Branco”, he concluded.
In addition to the decoration and magical moments provided by artificial snow and interaction with Santa Claus, the public will be able to enjoy other attractions, such as a photography contest, an ice skating rink and cultural presentations. The “Christmas of Life, Hope and Dignity” program will continue throughout the month of December.
