A 31-year-old man was arrested in , west of São Paulo, after shooting at police officers from inside his apartment. During the operation, authorities found a large arsenal, which included a 762 caliber rifle, a 357 revolver, two 12 and 38 caliber carbines and a 9 mm pistol, as well as ammunition, a bulletproof vest and packets of cocaine. The action was triggered after shots were heard in the region. Upon arriving at the scene, the police attempted to establish a dialogue, but were met with further gunfire. The suspect was in his apartment, on the top floor of a high-end condominium, and reached another property in the building.
Given the situation, the Special Tactical Actions Group (Gate) was called and carried out the invasion of the property, using a police dog to help capture the suspect. The man, who was identified as Marcelo Berlinck Mariano Costa, was in an altered emotional state at the time of his arrest. He suffered injuries during the approach and was taken to Hospital Beneficência Portuguesa to receive medical care.
