Trump says the United States should not get involved in the Syrian war: “This is not our fight”
The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, has spoken through his Truth social network about the civil war in Syria to state that the United States should not get involved in any way. “Syria is a disaster, but it is not our friend, and the United States should have nothing to do with it. This is not our fight. Let it develop. “Let’s not get involved!” he wrote, with part of his message in capital letters.
In his message, the American president, who is in Paris to attend the reopening ceremony of Notre Dame, makes his own analysis of the situation. “Opposition fighters in Syria, in an unprecedented move, have completely taken numerous cities, in a highly coordinated offensive, and are now on the outskirts of Damascus, obviously preparing to make a very big move toward the elimination of Assad.” , he writes, before commenting on Syria’s position and taking the opportunity to attack Barack Obama, Trump’s predecessor in his first term.
“Russia, because they are so tied up in Ukraine, and with the loss there of over 600,000 troops, seems unable to stop this literal march through Syria, a country they have protected for years. This is where former President Obama refused to honor his commitment to protect the red line in the sand, and all hell broke loose, with Russia intervening. But now they are, like possibly Assad himself, being forced out, and it may actually be the best thing that can happen to them. There was never much benefit in Syria for Russia, other than making Obama look really stupid,” he writes.
Meanwhile, the current Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, spoke today with the Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, about the evolution of the situation in Syria. Blinken has emphasized the importance of protecting civilians, including members of minority groups, throughout Syria, the State Department said. The secretary has spoken of the need for a political solution to the conflict, consistent with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
