Non-slip soles thanks to hairspray
What quick tricks can you try? You can spray a layer of hairspray on the soles. It is not only an easy solution.
This method has several advantages. In addition to a temporary non-slip layer on your shoes, you can also keep a small pack of hairspray in your purse and on hand whenever you need it. Hairspray is not heavy, you can buy it at any drugstore or supermarket and you can quickly re-layer as needed.
In order for the polish to last a little longer, it is necessary to keep the soles of the shoes clean and dry, ideally also slightly roughened, as you could see in the post. Not only a piece of sandpaper, but also a coarser nail file will help you with this. Allow a layer of polish on each sole to dry before hitting the streets.
More tricks for non-slip soles
Other methods that you can easily apply are using patches to create a new rougher layer on the sole. Patches can be cushion-like, as you saw in the post, but they can also be ordinary medical textile tape, which can be easily torn, adheres to the shoe and is cheap and available. Paper masking tape, which is used when painting an apartment, will also help temporarily.
You can also buy shaped rubber stickers in stores or online, which are specially designed to prevent excessively smooth soles from sliding on ice or snow.
It will also work well to create a non-slip surface on the soles using so-called “puffy” paints, which some sellers call annoyingly inflatable. These are colors most often in a tube with a narrowed neck, through which the color can be applied directly. Until it dries, the paint behaves like a thick tempera that can be smudged. But if you leave a thicker layer, it dries into a flexible, even rubbery soft layer that usually sticks very well to textiles and similar, at least slightly porous, materials. Puffy colors are also excellent for creating a pattern on shoes that will have a non-slip effect.
