Protocol includes new procedures and videolaparoscopy, aiming to improve patients’ quality of life
The announced on Friday (Dec 6, 2024) the implementation of the PCDT (Clinical Protocol and Therapeutic Guidelines) for breast cancer in the SUS (Unified Health System). The initiative introduces 5 new procedures and videolaparoscopy to specialized centers. The objective is to improve patients’ quality of life and efficiency in the management of health resources.
The inclusion of videolaparoscopy in the SUS protocol is a highlight of the Ministry of Health. The minimally invasive procedure aims to reduce hospitalization time and the need for reinterventions. The added procedures include inhibitors of CDK (cyclin)-dependent kinases 4 and 6, trastuzumab emtansine, drug ovarian suppression and parenteral hormone therapy.
Also includes colony-stimulating factor for dose-dense regimen support and expanded neoadjuvant therapy for stages 1 to 3 breast cancer.
The ministry emphasizes that the PCDT standardizes the treatment of breast cancer, ensuring timely diagnosis and equal access to new medicines. The integration of the line of care for patients with breast cancer into the “More Access to Specialists Program” aims to facilitate diagnosis and treatment.
The OCI (Protocol for Access to Integrated Care Offers in Specialized Oncology Care) seeks to reduce the deadline for starting treatment from one year and six months to 30 days. The initiative aims to reduce mortality associated with delayed treatment.
