The judge of the National Court, Francisco de Jorge, has sent three others involved in the judicial investigation for which they were arrested last Wednesday to provisional detention in the Port of Valencia. The police commander, Jesús FB, who was in charge of the Office of Fiscal Analysis and Investigation (ODAIFI) of the Valencian port, dedicated to fighting against the smuggling of goods in port facilities, is being investigated for belonging to a criminal organization dedicated to drug trafficking, receiving bribes, revealing secrets and omitting the duty to prosecute crimes, according to legal sources. Of the remaining three, one of them is being investigated as the head of a criminal organization dedicated to drug trafficking and paying bribes, and the other two are implicated as members of a criminal organization dedicated to drug trafficking.

After his appearance yesterday Saturday, the Prosecutor’s Office had requested that the captain and the other four detainees be placed in preventive detention, according to legal sources cited by Efe. The public ministry considered that there is a risk of flight, repetition of crime and destruction of evidence. Finally, the former head of the ODAIFI and the other three investigated were imprisoned.

The Internal Affairs investigation of the Civil Guard, directed by the head of the Central Court of Instruction Number 1 of the National Court, and in which the Customs Surveillance Service also participates, had been underway for some time. However, the recent seizure of a ton of cocaine in the port of Valencia, which is being investigated in a separate case in the Valencian courts, precipitated the proceedings, since a link was found between both operations. In this second case, in which the National Police and Customs Surveillance participated and there was a controlled delivery of the drugs, and there are six other detainees. In total, there are 11 involved in both operations.

Jesús FB, who had already been involved in another investigation when he was chief officer of the Local Police of Caravaca de la Cruz (Region of Murcia), had been working at the Port of Valencia from 2014 to May 2024. During his time at the head of the Caravaca Local Police, a judicial investigation was initiated following a complaint from the local PSOE to the Prosecutor’s Office regarding the alleged irregular disappearance of vehicles from the municipal tow truck depot for their alleged sale in scrapyards. The case was finally archived, but it led to his resignation as head of the Local Police and his re-entry into the armed institute.

The Prosecutor’s Office already warned, in the 2023 report, about the need for greater control of port areas and especially warned about large ports, such as Valencia, Barcelona, Algeciras or Vigo. “Improvements are being made, more controls, more security measures, more cameras, but I think there is a lot left to do,” explained the Chief Anti-Drug Prosecutor, Rosa Ana Morán to EL PAÍS regarding these critical infrastructures of the State. The port of Valencia is one of the most recorded seizures, along with Barcelona and Algeciras. In 2023, Barcelona had a historical record of 19 tons, followed by Valencia and Algeciras, with 14 tons seized, according to data from the Tax Agency.

Less than a month ago, he commanded the Economic and Fiscal Crime Unit (UDEF) of the National Police with millions of euros from drug trafficking hidden behind the walls of his house. He was arrested along with 14 other detainees, including his wife and another relative, accused of belonging to a drug trafficking organization with contacts in Latin America that had supposedly brought huge quantities of cocaine into Spain. The investigation, which is also in the hands of the Central Investigative Court Number 1 of the National Court, remains open and is related to the 13 tons of cocaine, the , seized by the National Police in Spain in Algeciras last October.
