Tips for cleaning floors
Keeping a laminate floor perfectly clean is not a piece of cake. It turns out that it is useful to know their type and the properties of the materials from which they are made – thanks to this knowledge, cleaning is more efficient and the condition of the floor remains perfect, no matter how intensively it is used.
Would you like to enjoy a sparkling clean floor without streaks and stains right from your doorstep? Have you admired a similar one every time you visit your grandmother, where after a thorough wiping and polishing, the fragrant surface looked phenomenal? Nothing prevents the floor from looking like this in your home.
Here are practical tips for cleaning wood, laminate and vinyl floors. Thanks to the right technique and the right cleaning products, it will shine like new every day, without streaks and stains.
Let’s start with what not to do with laminate and wood panels:
- do not pour too much water on the panels – excessive moisture can damage them
- do not use sponge or string mops that you cannot dry firmly
- do not pour cleaning products, even household ones such as vinegar, directly onto the floor – all laminate cleaners should first be properly diluted with water
- do not clean the floor before vacuuming thoroughly – fine sand, pebbles and other hard dirt accumulated on the surface of the floor and in the crevices can damage the panels
- do not let the laminate floor dry out – it is ideal to wipe it dry with an absorbent microfiber cloth immediately after cleaning
Stains in the form of streaks and spots can be easily avoided.
- It is important that you only use filtered or distilled water for cleaning.
- For example, water collected in the tank of a tumble dryer also works well. I use it every time I clean the floor, whether I’m cleaning tiles with a steam mop or taking care of wooden panels.
- It is also very important to choose the right product, because it turns out that it is not always worth reaching for expensive liquids for laminate floors directly from the store shelf, when we have completely suitable products at home.
What can I do to clean the floor so that there are no streaks on it?
I achieved a clean floor after my grandmother only after Saturday’s cleaning, when I used… cube in the dishwasher. I recently read about the effectiveness of this method, ran out of ready-made floor cleaner and was looking for an alternative way to clean and polish my dirty, dirty floors.
I decided to try the dishwasher detergent – I dissolved the cube in a bucket of water, waited a while and then reached for the mop.
You already know what to use to clean your laminate floor so it doesn’t smudge, now you want to know how? Here is the method in 4 easy steps.
- Dissolve a cube of dishwasher detergent in very warm water (it can be from the organic kitchen range). It should be neither hot nor too cold, it is important that the compounds it contains can be fully activated.
- Wait until the cube is completely dissolved, the solution in the bucket stops bubbling and the water is clear again.
- Use a well-wrung mop, preferably a flat one, or, as in the past, a regular rag (make sure the fabric does not leave fine hairs on the surface of the panels), either by hand or with a broom.
- After cleaning the floor, dry the surface thoroughly with a very absorbent cloth.
Keep the ratio right by dropping just one cube into a standard bucket. Together with a small amount of water and passing the mop along the longer side of the panels in accordance with their position, unsightly streaks on the floor will be prevented.
You will then avoid streaks and muddy streaks caused by poorly distributed and accumulated cleaning agent, which until now has robbed your floor of all its charm.
