This was stated by the chairman of the Smer-SD parliamentary club Ján Richter in the Sunday discussion show O 5 minút 12. The chairman of the PS parliamentary club, Martin Dubéci, pointed out that in Hungary the introduction led to the collapse of the market.
“This is a serious topic that the prime minister is dealing with, because food prices are problematic. If the five percent VAT is not reflected in practice, it will probably be necessary to take regulatory measures. I hope it wouldn’t be necessary. I hope that what the food producers and traders promised would be realized, that it would be reflected in those prices,” said Richter, adding that residents of Slovakia should not be concerned about the impact of consolidation on food prices in stores.
Dubéci drew attention to the fact that price regulations led to the collapse of the market in Hungary. He added that the state should provide strong social assistance. The PS therefore came up with a proposal for a housing allowance, which the government, however, rejects. “Raising taxes will lead to inflationary pressure. It doesn’t matter how the tables or categories are set up. Food prices will rise because of other factors. The overall tax burden on the economy will be higher,” he explained, adding that people feel fear not only because of rising food prices, but also because of energy prices.
Richter pointed out that the price of power electricity should remain at the same level as this year. However, the issue of the price of heat and gas is still being resolved. The government expects to allocate 280 million euros for this purpose. “The government realizes that it will be necessary to help. It is probably to be expected that the prices will rise slightly, but here too there are certain tariffs and classes. If there is interest, it should affect those with larger subscriptions more,” he said.
According to Dubéci, the government has an obligation to inform the people three weeks before the end of the year how they should prepare in this situation. “It is not clear how it will look, and that is absolutely irresponsible. We had a promise that the decision would come to Mikuláš.” he pointed out that the PS is in favor of targeted aid.
