One thing is already certain: 2024 will be a year of record bankruptcies. Large companies such as Kika/Leiner and the motorcycle manufacturer KTM also buckled. It became apparent in the first half of the year that a particularly large number of companies would become insolvent this year. Then the repeatedly predicted economic recovery failed to materialize – and the situation worsened for many companies. The wasting away can also be expressed in numbers. There have already been more than 5,000 corporate bankruptcies. If you include those who had too little money even for bankruptcy proceedings, there were almost 6,200 by the end of November – around a quarter more than in 2023. And the number is increasing every day. According to an analysis by the Alpine Creditors Association (AKV), there will probably be a good 6,700 by the end of the year.
