US President Joe Biden declared on Sunday that members of the US armed forces will remain in Syria for the foreseeable future. They will continue to fight against the terrorist group Islamic State (IS) in the country. At the same time, the Central Command of the US Armed Forces said that on Sunday it carried out 75 strikes on the positions of the Islamists. TASR informs on the basis of reports from the agencies DPA and Reuters.

In his speech, Biden said that the US will not allow IS terrorists to take advantage of the power vacuum that has occurred in Syria after the fall of the regime of the long-time president of the country, Bashar Assad.

The American president also stated that in the past hours, American forces had carried out “precision airstrikes” on IS targets in Syria. “We will continue to be vigilant,” Biden assured. According to him, this vigilance also applies to the rebel groups that overthrew President Assad.

DPA reminds that approximately 900 American soldiers are deployed on the territory of Syria, who are conducting combat operations against IS. At-Tanf bases are mainly located in the desert near the borders with Jordan and Iraq.

At the end of 2015, IS controlled large parts of Syria and Iraq, and millions of people lived under the de facto rule of the terrorists. However, the organization was almost completely defeated in the Middle East in 2019 by an international coalition led by the United States.
