Crucian carp is a fish from the Cyprinidae family, so it will be perfect for the Christmas Eve table. It is approximately 60 kcal leaner than traditional Christmas fishwhich is why more and more people are interested in purchasing it. However, it is worth choosing a crucian carp not only because of the care it takes to take care of its figure.
The silver crucian carp is a freshwater fish that is also called the Japanese crucian carp. It comes from Japan, but today it naturally appears in the Amur River Basin (in Russia, China and Mongolia). Its breeding is also carried out in Central and Eastern Europe.
Silver crucian carp also occurs in Poland. It can be found in farms or in lowland inland waters, standing and slowly flowing, in places with plant-covered ground. Populations of this fish consist almost exclusively of females, therefore their reproduction takes place in the process of gynogenesis (males from other cyprinid species are taken for spawning, which stimulate the reproductive process of females).
The fish is on average 15 to 35 cm in length and up to 1.5 kg in weight. It looks a bit like a Chinese crucian carp, but has different colors. It has a steel navy blue back and silver sides.
