Advisor to the Court of Auditors of Rio Grande do Sul (TCE-RS) since 2008, Cezar Miola from Rio Grande do Sul has thrown himself into the next position of minister of the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU).

Although there is still more than a year to go before the retirement of minister Aroldo Cedraz, who was appointed to the control body in the Chamber of Deputies’ quota, political articulations around his succession have already been opened.

Cedraz leaves office in February 2026. Afterwards, minister Augusto Nardes must retire compulsorily in October 2027, when he will turn 75 years old. He was also nominated by the Chamber, which is entitled to three seats in the TCU.

Cezar Miola, who is 59 years old, presided over the Association of Members of the Audit Courts of Brazil (Atricon) in the 2022-2023 biennium.

In office, he prioritized the oversight of educational policies and coordinated a national audit of public school infrastructure, which involved 33 courts in the country.

In a presentation letter that has been circulating in Brasília, Miola states that “the country needs to have experienced public servants, knowledgeable about the state apparatus, open to innovation and willing to build solutions while complying with current legislation”.

“I feel part of this group of Brazilians and I make myself available to join the TCU plenary, with the public interest and the Constitution as unavoidable guidelines”, says the advisor to the Gaucho court of accounts in the letter.

Miola cites the qualification of public spending, improvement of contracts and consensual solutions for disputes involving spheres of state administration as challenges for the control body in the coming years.

He has been talking, mainly, with representatives of the Rio Grande do Sul bench in the Chamber and seeking support in order to become competitive in a possible dispute.

Despite only being scheduled for 2026, the next vacancy at TCU is already moving politics and has been the subject of negotiations amid the succession of Arthur Lira (PP-AL) as president of the House.
