The fate of the president of , (PP-AL), after February 2025, when his term in command of the House ends, is a source of doubt and concern in the government and the Legislature.
One possibility is for Lira to go to government, which should occur in the first half of the year. The folders cited by allies to accommodate it are Agriculture and Health.
Having the visibility of a position in the Executive could help in his plan to be elected senator in 2026.
There are, however, obstacles to this, starting with the resistance of the senator (MDB-AL), whose son is Minister of Transport. It is also unknown what Lira’s coexistence would be like with the Minister of Institutional Relations, her enemy.
On the other hand, the government’s fear is that, if Lira remains in the Chamber, she will end up forming an informal bloc around herself capable of pressing for positions and funds.
As a party leader said, dozens of parliamentarians are loyal to Lira and will stand by him in any dispute with the Executive.
