The European champion and Olympic triple jump medalist, Ana Peleteiro, reported this Monday (9) on the social network TikTok several episodes of abuse and psychological mistreatment by a former partner.
“I woke up at night having sexual intercourse without consent. And, even so, I stayed. It changed absolutely everything about me, from my clothes to my hair, the way I acted with my family, I distanced myself from a lot of people, and, even so, I was “, says Peleteiro in his account on the Chinese digital platform.
“I hope this helps other girls not to stay, at least not so often”, continues the Galician athlete.
The video is linked to the series of publications “And even so, I stayed”, in which several women talk about personal situations about abuse they endured throughout their lives with their partners.
“She said she didn’t talk publicly about our relationship to protect us, because those who don’t know, don’t ruin it. And, even so, I stayed”, explains the athlete, mother and ‘influencer’.
With a serious expression and pausing to breathe, Peleteiro describes abuse and threats: “She argued with me and threatened to leave me every time I posted ‘stories’ with her about everyday things. And, even so, I stayed.”
“I had new friends every month and I invented stories that they had been friends for many years and it was a lie. They were like lovers. At that moment, obviously I didn’t know. Now I know. And, even so, I stayed, because I believed”, adds the athlete, bronze in Tokyo in 2021 and which came within eight centimeters of another medal in Paris last summer.
The athlete also details her jealousy towards her ex-partner: “She put in tempered glass, which didn’t allow you to see the phone unless you were facing it, because she said I wouldn’t stop looking at the phone every time she I wrote. And yet, I stayed.”
“Every time I suspected that she was talking to someone else, another girl, or was about to discover infidelity, she would say that I was completely crazy, that they were all figments in my head. And that I would end up breaking off our relationship for so long. distrust. And, even so, I remained”, he highlights without, at any point, giving the name of his ex-partner.
The statement was aimed at people who have already been through a similar situation: “If you identify with any of these signs, please run away. You will never be happy and it is doing you a lot of harm. Try to go to therapy, because leaving a relationship with a narcissist is very complicated. With help and with people around you who love you, you can get out and start from scratch, and experience real, good, beautiful love.”
After publishing the video, Peleteiro, who currently lives with her coach, Frenchman Benjamin Compaoré, former triple jump specialist and father of the daughter the athlete had at the end of 2022, received many shows of support from her followers.
