South Korea’s Bureau of Corruption Investigation is investigating a way to ban President Jun Sok-yol from traveling abroad.

This was confirmed by the office’s chief prosecutor, Oh Dong-wun, during a parliamentary hearing on Monday. TASR reports according to agencies AP and Jonhap.

The Office for the Investigation of High-Level Officials is one of several law enforcement agencies investigating the circumstances of the failed attempt to declare martial law. The travel ban has not yet been imposed, Oh said.

The South Korean prosecutor’s office on Monday summoned the head of the army’s special forces in connection with his participation in the events of the past week. Lieutenant General Kwak Jong-kun is a witness in the crimes of treason and abuse of power.

“I again send words of sincere apology to the people,” the general said when he appeared before the prosecutor’s office.

Earlier, Kwak said during a hearing for members of parliament that he had been ordered by the Minister of Defense to push people away from the National Assembly building. Today, former Defense Minister Kim Jong-hyun ordered him by phone to secure the facilities of the parliament, the National Election Commission and Flower Research, a public opinion polling company.
