Nobody single-handedly made their fans scream for a goal more times in 2024 than Yuri Alberto. This Sunday (8), Corinthians’ number 9 found the net once again in the 3-0 victory over Grêmio, reaching 31 this season and also winning the top scorer in the Brazilian Championship.

Throughout Nacional, the player from the black and white team scored 15 goals and will share this edition’s top scorer award with Alerrandro, from Vitória, who also found the net in the last round of the competition — he opened the scoring in the draw with Flamengo, for 2 to 2.

This is only the second time that Corinthians has a top scorer in the Brazilian Championship. The other was in 2017, when Jô was the competition’s top scorer, with 18 goals.

Throughout the season, Yuri found the back of the net in four competitions: five times in the Paulista, twice in the Copa do Brasil, nine in the Copa Sudamericana, in addition to 15 times in the Brazilian Championship.

Even with the numbers, the player experienced ups and downs in the season, especially in the first half, when he was heavily criticized by Corinthians fans for the goals he missed.

In addition to the artillery achieved by their number 9 this Sunday, Corinthians achieved the longest winning streak in the Brazilian Championship, with nine consecutive triumphs, a feat achieved by only two other teams in the history of running points: Internacional (2020) and Atlético-MG ( 2021).

Against Grêmio, Yuri Alberto opened the scoring with a penalty, Charles extended the score and Memphis Depay closed the score with a bicycle goal.
