Vienna/Berlin – The proportion of adults in Austria who have problems reading and understanding even simple texts and with easy everyday mathematical tasks has increased massively within a decade. This is shown by the OECD’s “Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies” (PIAAC), published on Tuesday. Between 2012 and 2023, the group with reading problems among 16 to 65 year olds has almost doubled to over a quarter.
