The statements made by an Israeli army spokesman to the Reuters agency come after the Israeli air force bombed hundreds of targets across Syrian territory in the early hours of Tuesday. Tel Aviv seeks to eliminate military infrastructure, including ammunition and chemical weapons, to prevent them from falling into the hands of rebels from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, the Islamist rebel group that led the seizure of power and deposed former leader Bashar al-Assad, now exiled with his family in Moscow.
