Research carried out a survey showing which areas have the highest dropout rate in the country
Choosing an undergraduate course nowadays is not an easy task, as well as being a very important decision for a person’s future.
Therefore, before choosing which profession to pursue in life, one of the criteria that people analyze is the dropout rate of students in the field.
Thus, a survey carried out by the Semesp Institute, in 2020, cataloged a list showing the courses with the highest university dropout rate in Brazil.
It’s not IT: these are the 6 most difficult university courses in Brazil (many don’t finish)
1. Electrical Engineering (40%)
The first place in the ranking is Electrical Engineering. The course was considered difficult due to the high level of abstraction of the concepts and the high level of mathematical knowledge required.
2. Mechanical Engineering (39%)
Mechanical Engineering comes in second place because it is considered a degree with subjects in the exact area, mainly mathematics and physics. You need to have a lot of skill with numbers and formulas.
3. Civil Engineering (38%)
The ranking showed Civil Engineering in third place in the survey. The subjects covered in this course involve a lot of mathematical calculations and in-depth knowledge of physics.
4. Production Engineering (37%)
The fourth place in the survey brought the Production Engineering course as one of the most difficult. This is because this degree is full of many subjects with mathematics and physics at advanced levels.
5. Chemical Engineering (36%)
Chemical Engineering occupies fifth place in the ranking. Graduating in this area requires knowledge not only in chemistry, but also in physics and mathematics at very advanced levels.
6. Courses by content technicality: Aerospace Engineering, Medicine and Law
Finally, the Aerospace Engineering, Medicine and Law courses were included in the ranking as difficult courses due to the technicality of the content. The reason is that they require study of mathematical theories, advanced knowledge about the science behind medicines, and reading and understanding complex legal principles.
