President felt a headache and ended the meeting with Congress leaders to go to the Sírio Libanês hospital in Brasília
The president (PT) complained to his team at Planalto about head discomfort on Monday afternoon (Dec 9, 2024). The PT member ended the meeting he had scheduled hours before with the presidents of the Chamber, (PP-AL), and the Senate, (PSD-MG), after just half an hour to go to the Sírio-Libanês Hospital in the federal capital. He arrived at 6pm to take exams.
Lula was rushed to hospital on Monday night (Dec 9). According to a medical report, he underwent a surgical procedure to drain a hematoma. The Chief Executive is admitted to the ICU and “is well”.
The minister of Secom (Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic), Paulo Pimenta, recorded a video explaining what happened to the president. According to him, the head of state was unwell throughout Monday, undergoing a series of tests in the late afternoon. He also says that Lula is hospitalized and will remain that way for “a few days”.
“Yesterday [Lula] he was a little unwell during the day, at the end of the afternoon he had a headache and, after contacting the doctors, he decided to carry out a series of tests at the end of the afternoon at the Hospital Sírio-libanês in Brasilia. After carrying out these tests, the need for this surgical procedure was confirmed and the doctors then decided to carry out this procedure in São Paulo. The team coordinated by Dr. Kalil”, said Pepper.
Lula went to the hospital’s Brasília unit “after experiencing a headache”. An MRI showed an intracranial hemorrhage.”resulting from the home accident ” by the president in October. The PT member was then transferred to the Sírio-Libanês Hospital in São Paulo, “where he underwent craniotomy to drain a hematoma”.

According to the hospital, “The surgery was uneventful”. The medical bulletin reads: “At the moment, the president is well, under monitoring in an ICU bed”.
Alckmin assumes agenda
The president would receive a state visit from the Prime Minister of Slovakia this Tuesday (Dec 10), in Brasília. With his hospitalization, the vice-president and minister of Industry and Commerce, Geraldo Alckmin, made the commitment. He was outside the capital and is already returning to fulfill the diplomatic commitments left by the PT member.
In addition to this commitment, the president had scheduled meetings with the Minister of Transport, Renan Filho, and Health, Nísia Trindade. He would also meet with his chief of staff, Marcola, and the Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa. These orders should just be cancelled.
