The Pope repeatedly criticizes the Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip.
Pope Francis will meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican on Thursday, his office announced. TASR informs based on a Reuters report.
The two have already met several times, most recently in November 2021. The Pope has recently been increasingly critical of Israel’s military offensive against the Palestinian movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Francis, who has been the head of the Catholic Church since 2013, has also criticized Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon against Hezbollah targets as exceeding “moral boundaries”.
Abbas is also scheduled to meet with President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni in Italy this week.
