took an important initiative by inviting the Governor and the Secretary of Public Security, , to a public hearing. This invitation, which does not require the presence of guests, was approved by the Human Rights and Citizenship Commission. The session is scheduled for October 12th, at 6pm, and its main objective is to discuss the growing concern about police violence in the capital of São Paulo. Councilor Luna Zarattini, who chairs the commission, is determined to question and demand concrete actions in response to recent cases of police violence in the state.
At the same time, Tarcísio was involved in a significant event related to public security: the tests of the new body cameras that will be implemented in São Paulo. This event took place at the headquarters of (COPOM) and was attended by important figures, such as the Secretary of Public Security, Guilherme Derrite, and the General Commander of the Military Police, Colonel Cássio Araújo. For approximately four hours, the governor dedicated himself to understanding how the cameras, which are provided by Motorola, work. The state government acquired 12 thousand cameras, of which 10 thousand will replace existing ones, promising more advanced technology.
The São Paulo government is preparing to present arguments to the (STF) that justify the use of the new cameras. The Public Defender’s Office raised concerns that the cameras do not meet STF requirements, such as uninterrupted recording. A feature of the cameras is the ability to be activated remotely by COPOM, which takes control away from the police officer in the field. The implementation of these cameras is expected to begin on December 17th. In addition to the cameras, Governor Tarcísio de Freitas plans to announce a series of other measures to reinforce public security in the state. Among these measures are the retraining of police officers, the acquisition of new white weapons and investment in training focused on non-lethal activities.
