Even in the ICU, President Lula will not hand over the position to Alckmin

He will not hand over the role to his deputy, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), informed Planalto’s advisors on Tuesday afternoon (10/12).

The president is conscious and recovering well after undergoing a craniotomy at the Sírio-Libanês hospital in the capital of São Paulo. However, there is no face-to-face office set up on site.

Lula will be under observation over the next few days and will remain in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for 48 hours. According to cardiologist Roberto Kalil Filho, who accompanies the president, Lula is stable and already awake. Furthermore, it could be discharged next week.

“President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is well, stable, awake and talking,” said Kalil at a press conference.

The surgery, performed to drain a hematoma, was uneventful.

The president felt headaches on Monday night (9) and was at the hospital in Brasília to undergo an imaging test. The MRI showed intracranial hemorrhage, resulting from the fall he suffered at home. He was then transferred to São Paulo.
