The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran says the United States and Israel are behind the fall of Bachar al-Assad and says Tehran has proof of what happened. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei addressed the country in a press conference broadcast live on state television, but did not present any evidence. And while the Islamist movements dominated by Mohammed al-Golani’s Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) assure the international community that Syria will have a transitional government through dialogue and inclusion of all Syrian communities, Russia fears for the security of two military bases it has in the territory. The Kremlin guaranteed that there is contact between Moscow and the leaders in power in Syria and recalls that the military interests it maintains in the Arab country are “protected by International Law.” From the West come signs of openness to the transitional government dominated by Islamists. In Washington, there are those who advocate the lifting of some sanctions that weigh on Damascus. In the United Kingdom, a member of the Government said that the possibility of removing Hayat Tahrir al-Sham from the list of terrorist organizations should be considered.
