The Minister of Health, reported this Wednesday (11) that she was unable to take photos of her eight-year-old grandson at the Mané Garrincha stadium, in Brasília, due to betting advertisements there.
The episode was recounted by the minister during her participation in the public hearing in the Senate, jointly led by the Human Rights (CDH) and Social Affairs (CAS) committees.
Nísia dealt with the issue of damage to mental health by betting and the actions taken by the ministry in partnership with the Ministry to combat the problems caused by betting on families.
“I had difficulty taking a photo with him because almost all the t-shirts that were on the panels had bet advertising. I said ‘my son, I can’t take it’ and I took advantage and explained it to him”, said Nísia.
Problems to the population’s mental and financial health caused by the consumption of betting platforms led the federal government to create on Monday (9) an Interministerial Group to deal with the issue.
The ordinance provides for the participation of representatives from the Ministries of Health, Sports, Finance, and Secom (Secretariat of Social Communication) in work to mitigate damage and offer support to individuals and communities affected by compulsive gambling practices or in vulnerable situations, considering the context of fixed odds betting.
