According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the situation in Syria is unpredictable.
No Slovak citizen has yet requested evacuation from Syria after the government of long-term president Bashar Assad fell there last weekend, Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Juraj Blanár told Slovak journalists during a visit to Brazil. At the same time, he emphasized that the Slovak Republic is cautious about commenting on the situation in this Middle Eastern country, reports TASR.
According to Blanár, the situation is unpredictable and Syria is another unstable element in the region.
“Currently, there is a 60-day ceasefire in Lebanon, which is broken from time to time. And we have an unstable Syria here, we are worried about whether the Islamic State will expand or consolidate its position,” Blanár pointed out, adding that his ministry is interested in Slovak citizens in Syria and is monitoring the situation.
