TIME Magazine reveals the 2024 Person of the Year this Thursday, continuing a tradition that began in 1927. This year’s shortlist features four women and six men of various nationalities.
For nearly 100 years, every year, TIME magazine recognizes the person, group or concept that has most significantly influenced the world—for better or worse—during the previous 12 months.
Among the previous honorees are Taylor Swift, in 2023, the Ukrainian President in 2022 and in 2021 — who will be present again in the 10 names for 2024.
Each finalist has had an impact on 2024, some in historic political campaigns, others in culture or technology. TIME’s selection will highlight, this Thursday, the personality who best summarizes the year’s complexities and triumphs.
