The Electoral Court condemned the governor of Goiás, the elected mayor Sandro Mabel and the elected vice-mayor Colonel Cláudia to ineligibility; decision still subject to appeal
The governor of Goiás, (União Brasil), speaks this Wednesday (Dec 11, 2024) to journalists about the decision of judge Maria Umbelina Zorzetti, from the 1st Electoral Zone of TRE-GO (Regional Electoral Court of Goiás), who.
In the same decision, the ineligibility for the same period and the revocation of the registration of the elected mayor of Goiânia, (União Brasil), and the elected vice-mayor, Cláudia da Silva Lira, (Avante) were also determined.
The Electoral Court understood that Caiado had favored Mabel and Lira, candidates who had his support, during this year’s municipal election by promoting dinners at Palácio das Esmeraldas, the seat of government. Among the guests would be councilors elected by Goiânia, substitutes and political leaders, according to the case records.
The 1st degree determination was made by judge Maria Umbelina Zorzetti and is still subject to appeal. Therefore, as there is no immediate execution, Caiado will continue in the position for now and Mabel can receive a diploma.
