A top doctor claims he found himself in heaven while in a coma. Portal he revealed what he experienced and what convinced him that there really is life after death. American neurosurgeon and writer Dr. Eben Alexander explained that he felt reborn after suddenly regaining consciousness while doctors considered whether to keep him alive.
This doctor’s life changed forever in November 2008 when he woke up one morning with a burning headache. “Within a few hours I fell into a coma. My cerebral cortex, the part of the brain that handles all the thought processes that make us human, completely failed,” he explained.
Experts found that Alexander was suffering bacterial meningitis that ate into his brain like acid and caused inflammation of the spinal cord. His chances of survival were almost zero. The neurosurgeon was having seizures and doctors decided to put him in a medically induced coma to give his body a chance to recover, although the prognosis did not look good. “I was in a deep coma, in a vegetative state, and all the higher functions of my brain were shut down,” it is stated according to the Daily Mail in an excerpt from his book Map of the Sky.
“The scans showed no conscious activity whatsoever. My brain was not malfunctioning, was completely disconnected. But my inner self still existed, despite all the known laws of science,” he added. Eben Alexander admitted that his work made him skeptical of patients who claimed that they’ve had out-of-body experiences, encounters with angels, and hallucinations because, he says, it’s the brain’s way of dealing with trauma.
“And then, under the most dramatic circumstances possible, I discovered proof that I was wrong. In the seven days that I lay in a coma and unresponsive, my consciousness took a journey through a series of realms, each one more extraordinary than the last – a journey beyond the physical world, which I would have rejected as impossible until then,” explained the top doctor.
Eben Alexander explained that medical records for every minute of his coma show zero signs of any brain activity, which he says proves that what he experienced was not just happening in his mind. He recalls that after falling into a coma he felt as if he was in a primitive, primordial state, as if buried in the earth, but he was aware that it was not the world he knew because he sensed, heard and saw other entities.
“After the lapse of a considerable time, though I cannot estimate how long, the light slowly descended from above, which cast beautiful threads of vivid silver and golden radiance. She was circular creature, which published the beautiful heavenly music I called the revolving melody. The light opened like a crack in the fabric of that gross realm and I felt how I pass through that crack into a valley full of lush and fertile greenerywhere waterfalls flow into crystal pools. There were clouds, pink and white clouds. The sky behind them was a deep blue-black. This world was not obscure“, he said.
It was paradise and he wanted to travel deeper and deeper into it. He describes Paradise as vast, diverse, and populated like Earth, but says that nothing there is isolated, alienated, or disconnected.
While soaking up the pure beauty of this place, he met with infinitely powerful deity, which he called Om and which served as his guide. “She was an extremely beautiful woman, which first appeared when I was driving as that speck of consciousness on the wings of that butterfly,” he said.
“I have never seen this woman before. I didn’t know who he was. Still, her presence was enough to she healed my heart. Her face was unforgettable,” he explained. “When she looked at me, I felt such an abundance of emotion, that if nothing good ever happened to me before, my whole life would be worth it“to live only for that look in her eyes” stated.
“It wasn’t romantic love. It wasn’t friendship. It was a love far beyond all the different departments of love we have on earth. Without actually speaking, she let me know that she loved me and cared for me above all else and that the universe is a bigger, better and more beautiful place than I could have ever dreamed,” he added.
She assured the neurosurgeon that she was loved, cared for and has nothing to fear, thanks to which, according to him, his supposed stay in heaven an absolutely wonderful experience. Meanwhile, he had been in a coma for a week and showed no signs of improvement, prompting doctors to consider whether to take him off life support. But then he suddenly regained consciousness. “My eyes just opened and I was back. I had no memories of my earthly life, but I knew very well where I had been.” he explained.
“Within days, then weeks, like gently falling snow, my old earthly knowledge returned to me. In eight weeks, my previous scientific knowledge, including experience and knowledge from more than two decades spent as a neurosurgeon in university hospitals,” he finished.
