The Star of Bethlehem does not have to be red. These varieties bloom white

The star of Bethlehem, also known as the poinsettia, is an extremely elegant houseplant that blooms in winter. We consider it a wonderful home decoration for Christmas. Many people choose the one with red flowers, but they also come in other colors. This time we will focus on white varieties.

it has yellow flowers that are hidden under colorful bracts. So what varieties bloom white? Here is the list:

Its upper flowers usually bloom white, but sometimes they can be cream in color. The lower ones, which look like leaves, are white-green with a visible network of veins.

This variety is characterized by white flowers. It is a very original plant because it looks like it was sprinkled with gold dust.

Its name translated into Polish is “Polar Bear”. It is called so because the breeder uses the money from the sale of this plant to protect polar bears. It’s worth buying because of it beautiful, white upper flowers. The lower ones are white-green.

It has characteristic white flowers with a cream tint, resembling snow caps. Their arrangement is perpendicular to the shoots.

This variety grows extremely luxuriantly, blooming with ruffled flowers. They are not pure white – they are slightly pink, which adds to their charm. The pink color becomes more intense as it fades.

It has white flowers with shades of cream. Green veins may also occur. The leaves look like those of an oak tree.

Star of Bethlehem grows best in a warm and bright place. However, we cannot place it in direct sunlight or above a radiator. The favorable temperature for this plant is 18-21 degrees Celsius. The specimen is planted in fertile, humus soil with a pH of 5 to 6.5.

We should make sure that the poinsettia substrate is constantly moist, but not soaked. Excess water will cause fungal diseases or root rot – the plant will be impossible to save.

Therefore, it is best to water the Star of Bethlehem moderately and on average once every two days. If the air in the room is dry, we recommend spraying water mist around it or placing a humidifier near it.

Poinsettia also requires fertilization. While it is growing, we should fertilize it with fertilizer for flowering plants once every two weeks. In the case of specimens purchased before Christmas, we do not have to do this immediately. The doses of nutrients found in the soil will be sufficient even until mid-January.
