There are some habits we practice that can end up causing your air conditioning to break down and cause greater harm to your pocket.

Therefore, it is good to pay extra attention to some signs, sounds or even behaviors that differ from normal functioning.

6 habits that can cause your air conditioning to break down

1. Ignore strange noises and excessive dripping

When your device starts making a series of noises, emitting strange noises or even starts dripping excessively, it’s time to pay attention to its maintenance. This is a sign that small problems may be happening. Excessive noise, much less leaks, is not normal.

2. Operating in extreme temperatures

This type of attitude only increases the stress on the equipment and can shorten the device’s useful life. When at minimum temperature, more demands are placed on the compressor and this can cause ice to form on the evaporator. The tip is to try to use temperature ranges pre-defined by the manufacturer.

3. Failing to clean filters frequently and consistently

Cleaning the filter is a serious matter, as they are important for air quality and even our health. Therefore, neglecting component hygiene can cause serious damage to its function and structure.

4. Using unsuitable circuit breakers and/or cables for the air conditioning operating circuit

Because it requires a stronger and more intense electrical current, air conditioning requires special care when installed. However, many people end up installing incorrectly, using low quality cables and circuit breakers. This could damage the device and even cause fire.

5. Leave windows and doors open while it works

Note carefully: air conditioning needs to work in a completely closed environment, otherwise it will never reach the desired temperature. Furthermore, the engine will be working at maximum level, which could cause fires or shorts in the wiring system.

6. Do not turn off the air after long periods of operation

Finally, it is important to turn off the air conditioning after long periods of operation. Failure to do so wears out the components and causes problems with ice crust formation, in addition to potentially burning out the compressor.
