At the moment, there is an opportunity to end the war in Ukraine and plan for peace, Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán declared on Thursday in Ankara after a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The correspondent of TASR in Budapest informs about it.
In a video published on Instagram, Orbán emphasized that the most important thing is for everyone in Europe to come to their senses now.
“The Hungarian presidency in the European Union is slowly coming to an end, so we started a big adventure at the end of the year. I visited Pope Francis in Rome and also met the Italian Prime Minister (Giorgia Meloni). In Florida I had a discussion with President Donald Trump, yesterday I had a long phone conversation with the Russian President (Vladimir Putin) and today I held talks with the Turkish President in Ankara.” Orbán recalled his travels and negotiations, which he refers to as a peace mission.
According to the Hungarian Prime Minister, the leaders in Brussels should realize that the war strategy has no future. Instead of continuing the war, Europe should work to strengthen its defense capabilities and create a new security system with its neighbors.
“Half a year ago, no one even wanted to hear about peace, but today everyone is talking about it. We have opened the door, substantive negotiations can begin. It is the greatest success of the Hungarian EU presidency.” concluded Orbán.
