According to the Republican, some of those involved in the protests on January 6, 2021 are unjustly imprisoned
The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump (Republican Party), said in an interview published this Thursday (Dec 12, 2024) in the magazine that some of the invaders of the Capitol on January 6, 2021 could be pardoned in the first “9 minutes” of his next government. According to him, some of those involved in the protests are unjustly imprisoned.
“It will start in the first hour. Maybe in the first 9 minutes. The vast majority should not be in prison, and they have suffered severely […] If you take a look at what happened in Seattle (city where protests were recorded against the death of George Floyd in 2020)you had people dying, you had a lot of deaths, and nothing happened, and these people were treated very, very badly.”disse Trump.
The Republican’s speech comes after President Joe Biden (Democratic Party) 39 people and commute the sentences of another 1,499. Commuting the sentence does not remove the guilt of the crime from the perpetrator, it only reduces the sentence.
Biden’s clemency was the largest in United States history in a single day. Before him, only former President Barack Obama (Democratic Party) carried out more acts of clemency in a single day, with 330.
TRUMP AT THE TIME
President-elect of the United States Donald Trump was a “person of the year” 2024 from Time. He gave an interview to the magazine and spoke about some of his government plans.
It was the 2nd time that Trump received the title. The 1st was in 2016, when Democrat Hillary Clinton won in the presidential elections. Interestingly, Kamala Harris, who lost to Trump in the 2024 elections, was among the competitors.
Furthermore, the magazine highlighted the Republican’s victory over Kamala Harris, remembering that he won votes mainly among young voters and won key states in the North American elections.
