The majority of São Paulo residents believe that the use of force is abused, according to a Genial/Quaest survey released this Thursday (12).
Among those interviewed, 53% say that the PM is going beyond the limit in the use of force, against 42% who consider that there are isolated cases, but that the corporation almost always acts in accordance with the law. Another 5% do not know or did not respond.
The survey interviewed 1,650 people in the state between December 4th and 9th, with a margin of error of two percentage points.
The data reflects the sequence of police episodes in recent weeks, which led to a government (Republican) decision.
Opinions about police violence vary depending on the level of approval of state management. Among those who have a negative perception of the Tarcísio government, 76% consider the PM’s use of force excessive.
Among those who approve of the government, 55% say that it behaves within the law.
The survey also asked what the population’s assessment of PM in general was. In this case there was a technical tie, with 37% saying it was negative, 34% positive and 27% neither negative nor positive.
Among those who support Tarcísio, 45% have a positive evaluation of the PM, while 62% of those who disapprove have a negative image of the corporation.
