The governor of Maranhão, Carlos Brandão (PSB), appointed his brother Marcus Brandão to the position of Extraordinary Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs, two days after minister Alexandre de Moraes (STF) suspended the appointment of him and other relatives in the Assembly Local legislature.
On Tuesday (10), Moraes ordered Marcus Brandão to leave his position as director of Institutional Relations at Alema, under accusations of cross-nepotism.
In addition to him, Jacqueline Heluy, mother-in-law of a nephew of the governor, and Camila Moura, sister of the first lady, Larissa Brandão, were removed from their positions. In October, Moraes had already ordered the suspension of the appointment of five other relatives of the governor.
Positions of state secretaries are outside the STF rules on nepotism, which allows relatives to be appointed.
The position of Extraordinary Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs was held by state deputy Ricardo Rios.
