Nicolas Mathieu is going to have a sad end-of-year holiday. While just a year ago he lost his father, the writer had to say goodbye to his mother. A shocking announcement made on Instagram.
“One year to the day later…” Nicolas Mathieu announces the disappearance of his mother on a very unusual date
“Chance, or something else, wanted my mother to disappear on December 5” : these are the words that Nicolas Mathieu, successful writer, wrote in the caption of a photo of a table at the end of a meal to announce the death of his mother, “one year to the day after my father”. It was on December 9 that the one who was photographed with shared the news with his subscribers on Instagram. And it is with tenderness that he recalled some of the memories he has with his mother, who is now gone.

“No one will yell at me anymore because I forget to be happy and kick the fridge at night. No one left to tell me put on your hood, why are you drinking at Christmas, my Tupperware is called Come Back. My first word now rings empty” continues Nicolas Mathieu.
The 46-year-old author, who saw his book Their children after them (which he dedicated to) recently adapted for the cinema, continues: “Yet there remains his evil spirit, something very lucid in his eyes, my other mother tongue, his voice which is in mine. In her last wishes, she wrote this sentence: ‘I don’t want to be exposed to the funeral home. Good luck finding a decent photo. This hint of acid is in my veins. This is not the least of his legacies.”
In an interview with Le Monde in 2023, Nicolas Mathieu spoke very quickly about his childhood and the fact that his mother had bequeathed him what he considers to be a bad habit with his son today: “Always be in a hurry, impose an adult pace on him. When I was a kid, I felt like things were going too fast, that everyone was stressed. Now my son complains a lot that I walk too fast” he said. The one who asserts that “the world has changed a lot in a few days” no longer keeps much of his previous life since the death of his parents. The only pillar of the past: his son Oscar, a young teenager born from his love affairs but with whom, he affirms, relations remain very healthy.
