At issue is support given to Ukraine through the return of interest on Russian assets frozen due to Western sanctions.
Os USA announced on Tuesday the release of 20 billion of dollars (19 billion euros) for the Ukraine, within the framework of a loan of 50 billion dollars promised by countries of G7, in collaboration with the World Bank.
“The United States fulfilled its October commitment (…) by transferring these funds” to the World Bank initiative dedicated to Ukraine, “through which they will be made available” to Kiev, explained the US Treasury Department in a statement.
This contribution from the United States — to a fund approved by the World Bank’s executive board in October to support Ukraine with contributions from the United States, Canada and Japan — will be repaid through the return of interest on frozen Russian assets due to Western sanctions.
The Russian Foreign Ministry did not like this decision.
The Kremlin indicates that this aid to the “bankrupt Kiev regime” will be done with resources that “were stolen by the G7 countries” and is “nothing less than a blatant theft.”
“The criminal legislation of any country that declares itself civilized defines robbery as the illegal seizure of personal property by an organized group of people by prior agreement. In simple language, the G7 stole Russian money as part of preparations to take control of all Russian sovereign assets stored in the West”, continues the .
And there are new warnings: “No pseudo-cool tricks, richly seasoned with hypocrisy and double standards, will remain unanswered. (…) The theft of Russian assets will affect the US itself and its satellites, destabilizing the already fading “rules-based world order””, it reads.
