South America will become the second continent after Europe to hold a qualifying tournament for the Women’s World Cup, after Conmebol announced plans for a competition from next year.

Traditionally, continental championships serve as qualifiers for the tournament, except in Europe, where UEFA organizes a separate qualifying tournament.

“The new competition will be played in 2025 and 2026 and will offer two direct places and two places in the repechage, in addition to the place already occupied by Brazil, the host team of the next World Cup”, said in a statement this Thursday (12) .

In the first edition of the tournament, nine teams will face each other, with each playing four matches at home and four away.

The two teams at the top of the table will qualify directly for the World Cup, while the third and fourth will go to the FIFA intercontinental playoffs.
