The president of the Senate states that the topic will have priority, as will the vote on the project to ban the use of cell phones in schools
The president of the Senate, (PSD-MG), said that it is “perfectly possible” that the ban on the use of cell phones in schools and the spending cut package presented by the federal government be voted on in the House before the end-of-year recess, which begins on December 20th.
“A topic like this [pacote de gastos] imposes great responsibility and agility on us. We are remaining optimistic that we are able to make this assessment in time, before the recess. I believe that it is fully possible for the Chamber to approve it and the Senate too before the parliamentary recess.”he stated.
The senator said, according to the newspaper which wants to prioritize the project to ban the use of cell phones in schools, as well as the renegotiation of state debt. Pacheco stated that from next Tuesday (Dec 17, 2024) there will be the possibility in the Senate of the work being extended until Friday (Dec 20), if necessary.
The president of the Senate stated that he spoke with Camilo Santana, Minister of Education, and promised agility in relation to the project to ban cell phones in schools. Last Wednesday (Dec 11) the Chamber of Deputies approved the ban on the use of technology by students. “Minister Camilo called me and asked for commitment. I see it very favorably, I have already asked the General Secretariat of the Board to give it some flexibility. It can be enjoyed next week, so before the break”said the congressman.
According to the forecast made by Pacheco, the National Congress should hold a session next Thursday (Dec 19) to analyze topics such as the Annual Budget Law and the Budget Guidelines Law. The renegotiation of the States’ debt must also be discussed. The Chamber approved last Tuesday (Dec 10) the text that reverses part of the interest on investments made in the States themselves. The project also allows debt payment within a period of 30 years, as well as the use of assets to reduce the debt stock.
